earlier this year, i entered the Friendly Competition 2010-2011 hosted by MEMEFEST (who are pretty incredible and bring up interesting and relevant discussions of the trajectory of graphic design). anyway, i was lucky enough to get my submission, a working version of one of my thesis projects: the psychology of home, accepted and published. the feedback from the curators was bang-on and was taken into consideration when finessing the final deliverable for the project. many thanks to everyone who was involved.

On The Idea of Home is a thesis process book documenting eight months of conceptual and visual research. Investigating the concepts of spaces, posessions, shared practices, sentiments and conventions, the research is represented in A Psychology of Home, Member Sans and The Food Table. As the projects inform one another and have developed simultaneously, it seemed most appropriate to organize my documentation chronologically with the choice of paper colour to indicate which project the research pertains to. Pink for A Psychology of Home; blue for Member Sans; yellow for The Food Table; and white for research that has influenced multiple projects.

this semester so far has proven to be a lot of writing and so it is cutting into design time. for those of you who know me and how anxious i am about writing essays, briefs, and artist statements, what a normal person would have completed in an hour takes me a good week to draft. but this is partially due to procrastination and multitasking (sort of).

so the only time i make a point to write something for this blog is around the new year mark--making this post a little overdue. sorry.

but this blog is now two years old and im really glad i have it as an archive for my process (and progress... yeah?) (happy birthday, blog! youre the best!)

2010 was a phenomenal year and finished with flying colours. its hard to believe that it has almost been a year since my departure to india--which really was the beginning of all the cool and amazing experiences i had to 2010. crossing my fingers for a great year ahead for me and you and yall.

here are two photos from the first few days of 2011 when i helped pack up my BFF tashas childhood bedroom and all the lovely nutty things that she has accumulated over the years. (now tasha is in south america getting bitten by strange bugs, partying with locals, and making me very jealous.) we planned on taking photos of everything that was getting thrown out, but we got lazy. so really, we only took photos of the rock collection...
